You must pass a theory test for cat B consisting of 40 questions. Theory test books & CD-ROMs are available in newsagents & book shops. The theory test can be applied for on line at www.dtts.ie or www.theorytest.ie, or call 1890 606106.
The theory test can be done before you are 17 but you will not receive cat B until you are 17yr+. |

Complete eye sight certificate D502 (click for form). |

Complete learner permit application form D201 which is available at garda stations or motor tax offices. |

Only complete medical report form D501
(a) if you are going to be over 70 or will be 70 on the day your licence is issued,
(b) or if you answered yes to any of the medical questions on learner permit application form D201
(c) you require a licence for a category of vehicle other that a car B (e.g. truck C or EC or D). |

Send all documentation or call into to your local motor tax office with appropriate fee, passport photo etc. Read all notes on learner permit application to make sure you don’t forget anything you need. |
