CAR & TRAILER / CARAVAN (E + B)

If you hold a Full category B licence, you may tow a trailer only if:

- The design gross vehicle weight of the trailer is 750kg or less, or
- The unladed (empty) weight of your towing vehicle is at least the same as the trailer's design gross vehicle weight, and the combined design gross vehicle weight of the vehicle and trailer is no more than 3,500kg.

When using a car to tow a heavier trailer, you must hold a category EB licence.

WAYS TO GET EB LICENCE

1 Do the EB test - To get a learner permit for EB if you have not done a theory test in the past 2yrs, this will have to be done.
2 Do the EC test (truck & trailer) test.

REMEMBER
: If you get stopped or involved in an accident there no point in saying “I did not know my licence didn’t cover that! As a driver you should know what you’re legally entitled to drive/tow.
Also will your insurance company cover you?
